Another win for Mullins and Walsh
The formidable combination of Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh once again struck gold as Kempes gained his second success over fences in the Grade Two Nas Na Riogh Novice Chase at Thurles.
Sent off at 9-2 following his victory at Fairyhouse earlier in the month, the seven-year-old was ridden with typical confidence by the champion jockey.
Hot favourite Jagoes Mill led the field into the straight but Walsh bided his time and after taking over on the run to the last, Kempes quickened clear to score by four lengths.
Irish Arkle winner An Cathaoir Mor was held up on his first try at two and a half miles but tired quickly and dropped away tamely in the straight.
Mullins' assistant Gary Davis said: "We were delighted with the way he jumped today and it opens up a lot of options for him now.
"Willie and Ruby will have to discuss where to go next but he's progressing well."
