Haydock under threat

Haydock’s big Blue Square Gold Cup meeting tomorrow will need to pass a 9am precautionary inspection due to the threat of frost.

The going is heavy on the chase track and soft, heavy in places on the hurdles course but it is sub-zero temperatures overnight that has clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright worried.

“Frost is the worry, not waterlogging,” said Tellwright.

“We have called a precautionary inspection for 9am and while any thaw would obviously have an effect on the ground, it is the frost we are worried about, it could get to minus three.

“There is also a bit of sleet forecast.”

As well as the feature Blue Square Gold Cup the Rendlesham Hurdle and the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle are due to take place.
