Friday check for Fakenham
Officials at Fakenham will stage a 7am inspection to assess the prospects of racing on Friday.
Temperatures at the Norfolk venue dipped below freezing overnight and with mixed forecasts for the next 24 hours, clerk of the course David Hunter has decided to call an early-morning check.
“We got down to minus 3C overnight and we still have some freezing fog at the moment,” said Hunter.
“There is some frost in the ground in the exposed areas, but temperatures are due to get up to plus 5C some time later today.
“We have conflicting reports regarding what we could get later on, with one forecast saying we will get some rain or sleet later on today and overnight temperatures getting down to minus 3C or 4C.
“Another forecast says the rain or sleet will arrive later, meaning overnight temperatures will remain above freezing, so we’ll just have to see.”
