This afternoon’s meeting at Lingfield will have to pass a further inspection at 8.30am if it is to go ahead as scheduled.

Although racing went ahead without incident on Friday, clerk of the course Neil MacKenzie Ross announced a 6.30am precautionary inspection in view of the weather forecast.

However, the inch of snow that has fallen is more than what was anticipated and officials will look again later this morning to assess the situation.

“We had an inch of snow overnight and it is still snowing here now,” said MacKenzie Ross. “We weren’t forecast this much snow and we’ll just have to see how the morning progresses.

“We’d be fairly confident we could clear the snow off the track at present but we’ll have to see what happens and we want some time to take stock of the situation.”
