Southwell jumps meeting off

Wednesday’s National Hunt meeting at Southwell has been abandoned after the track failed a noon inspection.

Temperatures at the track plummeted to minus six overnight and with conditions showing no signs of improvement, clerk of the course Roderick Duncan has decided to pull the plug.

“It got down to minus six overnight and the track is obviously still frozen,” said Duncan.

“We’ve had no option but to abandon as the temperatures just aren’t going to rise enough.”

Southwell’s abandonment means there will be no turf racing in Britain until Thursday at the earliest.
