Joncol on course of Hennessy compensation
Joncol is likely to be ridden differently when he looks for compensation in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 10.
Paul Nolan’s bright young star looked to have Tuesday’s Lexus Chase within his grasp when in front at the third-last but he made a mistake and was passed on the run-in by What A Friend and Money Trix.
Joncol, winner of the John Durkan at Punchestown, could meet at least one of those horses back at the same course in one of the highlights of the Irish calendar.
Nolan said: “We might have chosen the wrong option in trying to force the pace from that distance out.
“He’s a horse who is still only filling into his frame. I think we will try to rectify tactics the next day as we have to make some sort of plan.
“We’ll still look at the Hennessy. It’s in about 40 days, so it shouldn’t come too soon and hopefully he will have a nice prep until then.”
