Chepstow check a third time

This afternoon’s Coral Welsh National meeting at Chepstow must now survive a 10.30am inspection.

Clerk of the course Tim Long needs to check conditions for a third time because of the lingering threat of frost.

Overnight temperatures reached a low of around minus 3C, which led to an inconclusive first precautionary inspection at 8am.

And while it was a similar story upon inspecting the track at 9.15am, Long has reason to be optimistic.

He said: “I’m slightly more hopeful than I was as the temperature is just starting to nudge up.

“We’re going to have another look at 10.30am as the sun will hopefully give us that needed warmth.”
