Musselburgh off, Chepstow and Leicester check again

Tomorrow’s fixture at Musselburgh has been abandoned due to frost, while this afternoon's meetings at Leicester and Chepstow are subject to inspections this morning.

Officials at the Scottish venue delivered the news following an early-morning inspection, from which the situation soon became clear.

Clerk of the course Anthea Morshead said: “It got down to minus 3C overnight and the forecast this morning is for it to drop a couple more degrees.

“There’s another cold night forecast so we had no chance.

“We are due to race again on Friday, but, at the moment, things are looking pretty bleak.

“We will announce an inspection for that meeting on Tuesday.”

This afternoon’s Coral Welsh National meeting at Chepstow must now survive a 9.15am inspection.

Clerk of the course Tim Long needs to check conditions for a second time because of the lingering threat of frost.

Overnight temperatures reached a low of around minus 3C, which led to an inconclusive first precautionary inspection at 8am.

Long said: “There are clear skies, so that should give us some warmth from the sun.

“Unfortunately the frost has bitten into parts of the ground, but we are obviously going to give it every chance.”

Leicester have announced a second inspection at 9.45am ahead of this afternoon's fixture.
