Captain Smoothy became the latest advertisement for the training skills of Sean Curran when he landed a 16-1 touch in the Happy Christmas Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle at Exeter.

Having his first run since joining Curran's yard near Faringdon, the gelding travelled kindly throughout for Laura Griffiths and was always holding Ramvaswani to score by four lengths.
