Walsh poised for Exeter return

Ruby Walsh has given up his rides at Kempton today following a fall at Ascot on Saturday.

Walsh has a sore foot and ankle after the tumble from the ill-fated Sanglote in the Ascot Underwriting Beginners’ Chase.

Although he fulfilled the rest of his commitments that day, Walsh had an unscheduled day off on Sunday when the meeting at Cork was abandoned.

He has, however, decided not to take up his three mounts for Paul Nicholls at Kempton today.

However, the injury is not serious and he could be back in action at Exeter tomorrow when the feature race is the William Hill Gold Cup.

“He got a fall at Ascot on Saturday in the second race. He rode on for the rest of the day, but his foot and his ankle are sore, so he’s going to give today a miss,” said his agent and sister Jennifer.

“I haven’t discussed tomorrow with him yet. I was with him last night and he’s fine, just a little bit sore.”
