A case of strangles has been confirmed at the Hungerford stables of trainer Stan Moore.

The affected yearling filly, that arrived in the yard from Ireland on October 2, has been isolated and all steps have been taken to contain the disease.

Neighbouring yards, those in charge of horses with which the filly has come into contact and Jockey Club Estates, owner of the Lambourn gallops, have all been informed.

While further testing is carried out, no horses will move in or out of the yard.

Tim Morris, British Horseracing Authority director of equine science and welfare, said: "Stan called us straight away this morning and I'm satisfied that all the appropriate steps are being taken to protect other horses in the yard and the rest of the horse population from infection."
