Holland out of Kempton meeting

Darryll Holland will not be taking up any of his seven booked rides at Kempton this afternoon after suffering an injury at Goodwood on Sunday.

The jockey was due to ride Lis Pendens in the EBF Goodwood Racehorse Owners’ Group Maiden Stakes but had to be substituted by Dane O’Neill as he was kicked by the horse when getting the leg up.

A subsequent X-ray has shown Holland has suffered no broken bones but he admits he is not in a fit state to return to the saddle just yet.

“I went to get on the horse and the horse jumped forward and turned round and then kicked me” said Holland.

“I put my elbow up to protect myself and I thought it was broken straight away as the pain was really bad.

“I have to say the doctors at Goodwood did a great job and I think it was probably more shock than anything else.

“I’ve had the X-ray and the good news is my hand isn’t broken.

“Basically I’m going to ride again when it’s better but I don’t know how long that will be.

“I’m in a lot of pain today and it’s restricted the movement and everything, so I’m just going to have to take it easy.”
