Damien Oliver was impressed after partnering Luca Cumani’s Cima De Triomphe in a racecourse gallop at Sandown.

Having arrived in Australia last week, the Brigadier Gerard Stakes winner worked with stablemate Basaltico over seven furlongs.

The pair are expected to run in the Geelong Cup on October 21, a route Cumani took with Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer 12 months ago.

As well as Bauer, Cumani suffered another near-miss in the famous race with the Oliver-ridden Purple Moon, while the champion jockey also partnered Mad Rush for the Italian last year, but he says Cima De Triomphe feels a lot stronger.

“It was a nice piece of work and I liked the way he was able to go to the other horse when I asked him for an effort,” Oliver told www.ozeform.com.

“The others were a bit lightly-framed but this horse is bigger and stronger and I liked the way he worked.”
