Gibson announces retirement
Dale Gibson has announced he will retire from race-riding at York on Saturday.
The Yorkshire-based jockey had his first winner on Granny’s Bank at Pontefract in October 1985.
The 41-year-old lightweight has ridden more than 500 winners, including in the 1989 Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood on Very Adjacent.
"I started at York 24 years ago, I had my first ride there and I wanted to have my last ride there and it will be 24 years since I had my first winner which was at Pontefract,'' said Gibson, speaking from Catterick.
“I just thought it’s York, it’s local and it seemed the right thing to do."
