Alandi takes Leger honours

Alandi ground out victory for John Oxx and Mick Kinane in the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh as Yeats proved a major disappointment.

For a long way it looked as though Schiaparelli would make it a quick Leger double for Godolphin after Mastery's success at Doncaster.

But the six-year-old entire ran out of petrol at the business end after bowling along under Olivier Peslier.

The writing was on the wall for Yeats some way from home and it was 3-1 second-favourite Alandi who came to collar 2-1 market leader Schiaparelli and hold the late charge of Clowance by half a length.
