Kite 'going well' as Leger looms

Connections of Kite Wood believe the Ladbrokes St Leger favourite will have to put up a career-best performance to win the Doncaster Classic in two weeks' time.

Victories in the Bahrain Trophy and Geoffrey Freer Stakes have elevated to the Godolphin-owned colt to the head of the betting at around 5-2.

Although Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford feels those odds are "pretty skinny", he reported Kite Wood to be in fine shape following a workout today.

"He worked this morning and his regular rider was really happy with him," Crisford told At The Races.

"He's in good form, but he's going to have to put up the best run of his life to win the St Leger. He has to step up on what he has achieved so far.

"He's the type of horse who is progressing. He's a big horse and he's just now finding his feet.

"We go to Town Moor with a degree of hope under our belt but I wouldn't say confidence, and I think his price is pretty skinny at the moment.

"When he was 10-1 I could understand it, but the price he is at the moment is a little bit skinny, but the horse is going well."
