Pollen makes experience count at Newmarket

Pollenator was much the most experienced in division one of the Striking Ambition TFR 122 EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket and wound up an easy winner.

This was the fourth run for the Richard Hannon-trained daughter of Motivator, who was sent off a generous 11-2 for the seven-furlong event and Richard Hughes scythed through the pack in closing stages to score by three and a quarter lengths.

Alison Begley, representing owners the Royal Ascot Racing Club, said: "She is our second winner for the club by Motivator after Prompter won earlier in the season.

"She's a nice filly - she was only beaten a nostril here three weeks ago."

Hughes and Hannon made it a quick double in division two of the maiden, but only just.

Hughes replaced Jimmy Fortune on Paleo (20-1), who was involved in a lengthy battle with 7-4 favourite Pink Symphony.

The runner-up was coming back at her rival, only to receive a bump close to the line.

The distance between the two was only a nose and the stewards needed 20 minutes' deliberation to leave the placings unaltered.

Whippers Love has been kept busy this season and recorded his second victory in eight starts in the Breheny Nursery.

A 13-8 favourite after breaking his duck last time, he was always close to the pace under Richard Hills and was not stopping up the final hill to contain Rezwaan by a length.

Representing trainer Mark Johnston was Rose Beattie.

She said: "He was one of our early two-year-olds but, slightly surprisingly seeing as he is by Whipper, he has got better as we stepped him up in trip. That was nice and simple, just what we like."
