Kite Wood impresses under Dettori
Kite Wood put up a fine front-running performance to run out an impressive winner of the CGA Geoffrey Freer Stakes under Frankie Dettori.
The three-year-old was sent off the 11-10 favourite on the back of a victory in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket, and was always travelling within himself at the head of affairs.
The Godolphin inmate took a couple of lengths out of the field inside the final two furlongs and kept up the gallop to score by three and a half lengths from Halicarnassus.
The winner’s stable companion Age Of Reason picked up minor honours in third.
Ladbrokes make Kite Wood the new 7-2 favourite for the St Leger at Doncaster, while Victor Chandler and Paddy Power both go 6-1 (from 8s).
Dettori said: ``He stays well but the ground was much too quick for him, which is why he was hanging right. But he's won by a good margin and he'll come on for it.
“He’s maturing well, let’s hope he stays sound and he will have a good chance in the Leger.”
