Guest cleared over Sober's run
Trainer Richard Guest has had his appeal against a £3,000 fine handed out over the running of Sobers in 2006 upheld.
The disciplinary panel of the British Horseracing Authority cleared Guest of any wrongdoing following the gelding’s run in the Kidzplay “National Hunt” Maiden Hurdle at Ayr three years ago, in which he finished fourth under Paul O’Neill.
O’Neill was banned for 21 days and the horse suspended for 40 days after the stewards decided the jockey had failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to secure the best possible placing.
The rider did not contest his ban but following the conclusion of a long-running inquiry into betting patterns surrounding the race, Guest was finally successful in his appeal and the panel quashed his fine.
