Apple Charlotte to take a break

Henry Cecil’s Apple Charlotte is taking a break after a fruitless mission to America last month.

Winner of her first three starts and just beaten in her fourth, Cecil sent the filly to Hollywood Park for the American Oaks Invitational, where she ended up finishing eighth behind Gozzip Girl.

“The ground was too quick in America – she was travelling like the winner for a while but the jockey ended up looking after her,” explained Ed Sackville, who represents owners De La Warr Racing.

“She’s having a well-earned break at the moment. There is a race for three-year-olds in the middle of Deauville but she’ll tell us when she is ready for the race.”
