Singeur strikes winning chord at York

Singeur rattled off a no-nonsense hat-trick in the skypoker.com Stakes at York.

Robin Bastiman’s two-year-old sprinter drew favourable comparisons with Group One-winning stablemate Borderlescott after showing plenty of fight in this five-furlong dash.

The 9-2 favourite and Bossy Kitty swamped long-time leader Ignatieff inside the final furlong and a half, and became embroiled in an absorbing duel.

But Singeur, expertly ridden by Neil Callan, had the final word at the death to prevail by a neck.

Bastiman said: “After that, no one can say we are a one-horse yard. He’s a real professional and does everything you ask – there’s no malice in him.

“He’s improving all of the time but we won’t overdo it with him this season - you don’t want to if you’ve got a nice two-year-old. We’ll give him one more run and then go for the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy.”
