Tomorrow’s meeting at Ripon will need to pass a 7.30am precautionary inspection due to the threat of further showers.

The North Yorkshire circuit has been hit by 54mm of rain in less than 24 hours – and more is forecast.

“We are raceable at present, but there is more rain forecast,” said clerk of the course James Hutchinson.

“It is a precautionary inspection because we’d be able to race today but if we get a lot more we could have problems.

“The forecasters are saying we could get as much as half an inch.

“It’s been incredible, it started raining at around 7pm on Thursday and we’ve had over 50mm of rain.”
