Uvinza heads for Newmarket

Ribblesdale Stakes third Uvinza will have her next start in Saturday’s Plantation Stakes at Newmarket.

William Knight’s filly ran above expectations at Royal Ascot behind Flying Cloud and Flame Of Gibraltar, and hopes are high she is still improving.

“The Plantation Stud Stakes was always the plan and she ran a smashing race at Ascot,” said Knight.

“I wanted to try and get her into a Listed race. It means taking on Henry Cecil’s filly (Flame Of Gibraltar) at level weights, but we’ll have to go.

“I think she is improving, she was always a big, scopey filly.

“Whatever she did as a two-year-old was going to be a bonus as she always had a lot of growing and filling out to do.

“Since Ascot she’s improved again and she is looking a proper horse now,” he told At The Races.
