Tartan tops Wales's contenders
Last year’s Derby runner-up Tartan Bearer will face a maximum of eight rivals in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Michael Stoute’s four-year-old, winner of his only start this year in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown, could face his stablemate Tajaaweed, who was last of eight on his seasonal reappearance in the Prix Ganay.
John Gosden could also have two representatives in Wednesday’s showpiece with his Lockinge winner Virtual and Cambridgeshire winner Tazeez engaged.
Arguably the most interesting runner could be Jean-Claude Rouget’s Never On Sunday, who won the Prix d’Ispahan in impressive style.
Rouget can do no wrong this season and has already won the French 1000 Guineas and Derby.
Henry Cecil’s Twice Over, consistently placed at the highest level but yet to win, and last year’s French Derby winner Vision d’Etat add further strength in depth.
Godolphin’s Trincot and German raider Estejo complete the field.
