Epsom still on quick side

Conditions at Epsom remain good, good to firm in places after the course was treated to six millimetres of water to combat the recent high temperatures.

However, with cooler weather forecast from tomorrow, officials at the home of the Derby Festival have yet to decide on any further irrigation.

"I'm going to leave the ground here today as good, good to firm in places," said clerk of the course Andrew Cooper.

"By close of play today we will have finished a six millimetre cycle of watering the whole course.

"I've not made up my mind whether to water again yet. It certainly looks to be turning cooler. It looks as if we are going to stay dry, though we may see some light rain in this area on Friday afternoon.

"There might also be some rain coming our way from the south during Saturday, but we will just monitor that and see what we are being told about it in the morning.

"It's set to be dry tomorrow (Wednesday) with a temperature of 19 to 20 degrees and again dry on Thursday at 17 to 18 and getting cooler.

"We are not going to see temperatures like we have seen for the last five days, that's for sure."
