Star set for Epsom date
John Gosden is likely to let Expresso Star take his chance in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom despite being unsure about the four-year-old’s stamina.
The Lincoln winner ran a creditable race over his proven trip of a mile and a quarter in his first attempt in Group company when third to Doctor Fremantle at Chester on his latest start.
And the Newmarket trainer believes the son of War Chant deserves this opportunity after the colt worked with Oaks fancy Rainbow View at Epsom’s “Breakfast With The Stars” on Thursday.
“He’s a solid mile-and-a-quarter horse. I don’t know if he will get a mile and a half – we’re going to find out,” said Gosden.
“He’s a grand little horse. He underwent a throat operation in the winter that improved him a lot. He didn’t like the ground at Doncaster, or at Chester.”
Gosden may also run Dar Re Mi in the Coronation Cup on Friday week after last season’s Prix Vermeille runner-up accompanied Gosden’s Derby entry Debussy in a racecourse spin.
“I don’t know what we will do with her. Sometimes it’s better to keep fillies with fillies, but we’ll have a peep at the Coronation Cup,” he said.
