Top young apprentice Frederik Tylicki has been hit with a 20-day ban after falling foul of the ’totting up’ procedure for whip offences.

Tylicki had to attend the British Horseracing Authority headquarters because of a ride aboard Follow The Flag in a handicap at Thirsk on May 9.

He had already been given 25 days’ worth of whip suspensions over the course of the previous 12 months, and was owed two more from this particular ride.

The panel accepted an admission from Tylicki that he was guilty of improper riding.

Five days of this penalty will be deferred for three months until August 22, and the rest will run from May 22 to 24 May and May 26 to June 5.

One day will be spent at the British Racing School for remedial training on June 11.
