Weld big guns nearing return
Dermot Weld is lining up comebacks for a couple of his classy older horses as the Flat season kicks into gear.
Casual Conquest, third behind New Approach at Epsom and second behind Frozen Fire in the Irish Derby and Famous Name, second in the French equivalent, are both nearing a return.
“We’re delighted with Casual Conquest,” said Weld.
“We don’t have a definite plan with him but the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket (May 3) might be a suitable race for him.
“I hope maybe he will be good enough for a crack at the Arc, which would be his main target later in the year.
“Famous Name was unlucky not to win the French Derby and is very well.
“He will probably run in the Mooresbridge Stakes (May 4, Curragh) in a few weeks and then we will look at the different Group Ones over a mile and a quarter.”
