Carbery injured after horror fall

Paul Carberry has been taken to hospital for treatment on a punctured lung after falling from Jaamid in the Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.

The Irishman had only returned to the fray from injury on Tuesday, when he won the williamhill.com Supreme Novices' Hurdle aboard Go Native.

However his Festival has been cut short when Noel Meade's 33-1 chance blundered and unseated the rider at the 13th fence.

Carberry was initially taken to the jockey's medical room on the racecourse before being transferred to hospital for treatment.

Cheltenham's Andy Clifton said: "He has a right side pneumothorax and has fractured a rib, which has punctured a lung.

"He has now been transferred to Cheltenham General Hospital for treatment."

Carberry had been due to ride Star De Mohasion for Paul Nicholls in Friday's totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, but Timmy Murphy will now take the mount.
