Carlisle have been forced to call an impromptu inspection at 10.30am ahead of this afternoon’s meeting due to a much colder than anticipated night.

Temperatures reached minus five at one stage so despite frost sheets being in place, some parts of the track are still frozen.

“We were forecast minus two or three but it got down to minus five,” said clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch.

“At this moment we are still partly frozen and couldn’t race. We did have the sheets down it is just on some bare patches.

“We’ll have a look at 10.30am and providing the sun comes up we should be fine and the temperatures are forecast to rise. It is not like a few weeks ago when we were in the middle of winter.

“Hopefully we’ll be OK but we might need to take another look.”
