Bolger salutes 'awesome' Siorrac

Nina Carberry and Enda Bolger are struggling to hide their excitement about Saturday’s Fairyhouse winner An Siorrac.

On his first outing in front of a wider audience, the six-year-old was sent off the 4-7 favourite for the John McCarthy Memorial Hunters Chase and did not need to come off the bridle.

“He is very, very promising,” said Bolger. “He won two point-to-points and then won by 30 lengths on Saturday.

“We knew he was promising but at Fairyhouse, to use an American expression, he was awesome. When Nina came back into the winner’s enclosure, she just looked at me. He was something else.

“I would hope he would be a Christies (Cheltenham Foxhunter) horse next year but we will take things lightly at the moment.

“I’d say he will just do the Irish festivals, maybe Fairyhouse and Punchestown, that sort of thing.”

An Siorrac is a rare Bolger horse not to run in the famous silks of JP McManus.

The trainer continued: “I only have a couple of other owners – I just train for a few friends.

“The horse’s owner, Mr Cox, is one of the real nice guys. They had Back In Front a few years ago and I am pleased they have another good horse.”
