Officials at the Somerset venue delivered the uplifting news upon inspecting the track this morning.

Clerk of the course Michael Trickey said: “We had light overnight snow, with minimum temperatures not even getting to minus-one degrees.

“Even poking around in the dark this morning, it was pretty positive news.

“The going (heavy, soft in places) is hardly pristine, but at least we are racing.”
