McCoy forced to wait again

Tony McCoy’s quest for his 3,000th winner will take him to Market Rasen on Tuesday – if the weather relents.

Tony McCoy’s quest for his 3,000th winner will take him to Market Rasen on Tuesday – if the weather relents.

McCoy, currently on the 2,998 winner mark for Britain and Ireland, was supposed to be at Southwell this afternoon for three rides but snowfall in the area meant the meeting had to be cancelled.

The 34-year-old has three booked rides in Lincolnshire, Gabreselassie and Synchronised for Jonjo O’Neill and Illicit Spirit for Charlie Egerton.

However, prospects of the meeting going ahead at this stage look bleak and an inspection has been called for later today.

“We’re going to have a look at 2pm this afternoon and we have had approximately two inches of snow,” said clerk of the course Nick Patton.

“We’re going to have an early look to assess the prospects of racing and at this stage it doesn’t look too hopeful.”
