Alexander Severus strikes for O'Grady

Alexander Severus stayed on strongly in the hands of Andrew McNamara to take top honours in the Franke Conroy Memorial Maiden Hurdle at Leopardstown.

The 9-2 chance travelled well throughout the two-mile contest and went in pursuit of clear leader Manor Park halfway up the straight.

Despite running slightly green in the closing stages, Edward O’Grady’s charge responded well to his rider’s urgings and got on top late on to score by a neck.

Hot favourite Time Electric parted company with Ruby Walsh down the back straight.
