Cousin Vinny enhanced his growing reputation with a smooth success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Irish Racing Writers Novice Hurdle at Naas.

Willie Mullins’ Cheltenham Bumper winner only faced three rivals and set out to make all under his young pilot Patrick Mullins, the trainer’s son.

Cousin Vinny (2-7 favourite) quickened the tempo three furlongs out and while Realt Dubh and An Cathaoir Mor looked dangerous at the second-last he was nudged out to win comfortably by three lengths in the end, despite making a mess of the final flight.

Totesport were not impressed though and eased Cousin Vinny out to 5-1 from 9-2 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. William Hill are unchanged at 5-1 for the Supreme and 7-1 for the Ballymore Properties.
