McCoy key to Calgary plan
Henrietta Knight is waiting on champion jockey Tony McCoy before deciding where to run her exciting novice chaser Calgary Bay this weekend.
The six-year-old is one of the leading fancies for the Arkle Trophy following a hugely impressive success under McCoy in the Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.
He is currently engaged in Ascot’s Montpelier Group Lightning Novices’ Chase over two miles and a furlong on Saturday and the Altcar Novices Chase at Haydock over two and a half miles, but Knight is keen to maintain the winning partnership.
“I don’t really know where we are going at this stage as we don’t know where AP will be and I don’t know what the ground is going to be like,” said Knight.
“The plan is for him to run at one of those and the likelihood is he will go wherever AP can ride him.
“I know what his best trip will be long-term but I suppose at the moment you could say he is quite versatile. He will be crying out for a trip next season that is for sure.”
