Wetherby abandoned due to frost
This afternoon’s meeting at Wetherby has been abandoned after temperatures dropped well below freezing overnight at the West Yorkshire venue.
Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson described the track as raceable on Friday but called a 9am inspection due to an unfavourable forecast.
Temperatures dipped to as low as minus four overnight and Sanderson was able to call the meeting off earlier than the planned check with conditions showing no signs of improvement.
“Unfortunately we have had to abandon as we got down to minus four overnight and it is still that temperature now,” said Sanderson.
“We covered the take-offs and landings on Friday and ironically, they are OK but there are several areas we couldn’t cover and they are frozen solid.
“At the start of the week I thought this would happen but it is slightly disappointing as things had improved on Friday, but that’s racing for you.”
