Sandown forced to check again

This afternoon’s meeting at Sandown is subject to a second inspection at 10am with temperatures at the Esher venue still well below freezing.

Although the track is completely covered to guard against the frost, temperatures are currently as low as minus six and clerk of the course Andrew Cooper believes it is not yet safe to take off the covers.

“The covers have actually done quite a good job but the problem is that it is still minus six so we cannot take them off just yet,” said Cooper.

“We could do with the temperatures rising a little bit as 10am is really the latest we could start to take off the covers.

“We are hopeful but it is going to go right to the wire.”
