This afternoon’s meeting at Taunton is now subject to a 10am precautionary inspection – but officials are confident racing will go ahead.

Clerk of the course Michael Trickey was this morning given a major lift upon assessing conditions as any frost in the ground had thawed out.

Despite issuing an upbeat report, Trickey will err on the side of caution by checking the track again.

“The temperature was lower this morning than it was last night, but only very briefly because I couldn’t find any frost in the ground this morning,” he said.

“I dare not put my head on the block, though, until I check the track again later this morning.”
