St Stephen's Day entry for Denman

Denman has been given a surprise entry at Wincanton on St Stephen's Day.

The eight-year-old has been on the sidelines since his brilliant win in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March after he was found to be suffering from a fibrillating heart.

All has reportedly gone well with his recovery and his main prep before another Gold Cup bid is set to come in the Aon Chase at Newbury in February.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has said he may try and get a run into Denman before then and he is among 32 horses entered in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier).

Denman’s last run over the smaller obstacles was also his only defeat under rules, as he went down by two and a half lengths to Noel Meade’s Nicanor in the Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle at the 2006 Cheltenham Festival.
