Comhla Ri Coig comes home first

A late rush of money on Comhla Ri Coig proved well placed as Donald McCain’s seven-year-old landed division one of the Sodexo Prestige ’Fixed Brush’ Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock.

Jason Maguire’s mount jumped off as the 11-4 joint favourite after a surge of cash in the betting ring, and he scampered away over the final flight to pass the post four lengths clear of Western Whisky.

McCain said: “He has not had a lot of racing and is still a bit nervous.

“I left it up to Jason to try and settle him and he came away grand.”
