A true sporting legend will present the trophy to the winner of the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow on December 27 with boxer Joe Calzaghe set to do the honours.

Calzaghe, unbeaten in 45 fights as a professional, held the super-middleweight world title for 10 years before moving up to light heavyweight for his last two fights against fellow ring stalwarts Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jnr.

The 2007 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be introduced to the crowd in the winner's enclosure where he will be interviewed by raceday presenter Charlie Parkin.

"I'm a big racing fan and Coral Welsh National day is a fantastic sporting occasion for the whole of the country," said Calzaghe.

"I'm thrilled that I will be able to go to Chepstow Racecourse this year and am looking forward to joining the crowds for one of the most exciting days of the year."

Richard Holland, Chepstow's general manager, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Joe Calzaghe will be with us on Coral Welsh National day. He is a sporting icon in Wales, and Welsh sports fans adore him. Joe will very much add to the sense of occasion."
