Wolverhampton joy for January

January made the journey from Ireland more than worthwhile when running out an impressive winner of the Ringside Suite Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton.

Ted Walsh's five-year-old, carrying the colours of Al Eile and dual 1000 Guineas heroine Finsceal Beo, was sent off the 5-4 favourite under Pat Cosgrave and it looked ominous for his rivals when Walsh and owner Michael Ryan arrived by helicopter.

The son of Daylami travelled well throughout the nine-furlong contest and drew away in the straight to score by five lengths from Cheney Manor.

"He's won well there and the jockey said when he pulled the horse level he had no confidence but when he passed the other horse, he just went," Ryan told At The Races.

"We came over in my helicopter and it took us an hour and five minutes, so it's grand."
