Ascot set to be next for Golan

Golan Way could try to maintain his unbeaten record over hurdles at Ascot next month.

Sheena West’s stable star may reappear in the Grade Two Mitie Kennel Gate Novice’s Hurdle on December 19 after making it four out of four with a game all-the-way success at Cheltenham on Friday.

“There isn’t much choice for him. He’s won too many races now for those novice races. On the basis of that, we’ve been looking at the Kennel Gate at Ascot,” said the Lewes trainer.

“It’s a front-runners track, but we wouldn’t want the ground to be too heavy for him and you’d hope it wouldn’t be.

“Other than that you are looking at the Tolworth at Sandown in January and that usually comes up bottomless.”

West hopes Golan Way will return to Cheltenham in the spring for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, for which he is a top-priced 25-1.

“To go back there is the plan,” she added.
