Men at work on Town Moor

Irish trainer Mick Murphy is looking forward to seeing Menwaal take his chance in the totesport.com November Handicap at Doncaster on Saturday.

The son of Montjeu ran out a decisive winner of a valuable event at Naas last time on only his second run of the campaign.

Murphy believes his charge has progressed since that effort and is hopeful he will have conditions to suit on Town Moor at the weekend.

“Menwaal will run in Doncaster at the weekend and I think he has improved again since he won at Naas,” said the County Tipperary handler.

“I was really pleased with him that day and while soft ground is not vital to him, I would rather run him on that than on fast ground.

“We shouldn’t have any worries on that score anyway as it should be fine at Doncaster, but it does look a competitive race.

“I suppose Luca Cumani’s horse (Presvis) would be the one that stands out, but our lad is in good form so he will take his chance and see what happens.”

East Yorkshire handler Declan Carroll expects conditions to favour Hits Only Vic, who finished down the field in the Cesarewitch last time.

“The plan is to run him at Doncaster and it’s looking like he should get his ground there,” said Carroll.

“The ground was good to firm in the Cesarewitch, which is definitely too fast for us, but that shouldn’t be a problem at the weekend.

“He has won at the track and obviously he is dropping back in trip from what he has been running over recently.

“But he is in good nick and it’s a good prize so he will have a go.”

Menwaal is a best-priced 14-1 for the competitive heat, while Hits Only Vic is as big as 33-1.
