Viewed wins Melbourne Cup

Viewed held off a late challenge from Bauer to win the Melbourne Cup at Flemington today.

Jockey Blake Shinn took Viewed to the front and had looked on course for victory with 200 metres to go only for a storming charge by Bauer threatening to pip the Bart Cummings-trained horse at the post.

But a photo determined that Viewed won by a short head.

C’est La Guerre was three lengths back in third while Master O’Reilly was fourth with Profound Beauty completing the top five.

Septimus took up the early pace and looked on track for a good finish, but dropped away to finish well back in the field, while favourite Mad Rush was never in the running.
