Dettori mount Donativum wins in Santa Ana

Donativum, trained by John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori, has won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita.

John Gosden's Donativum came with a late surge to nail Aidan O'Brien's Westphalia by half a length in a European one-two.

Murtagh appeared to have given the Champagne Stakes winner a beautiful ride as Westphalia hit the front, taking over from Coronet Of A Baron well inside the final furlong.

However, Dettori kept his nerve and followed Murtagh through as the Princess Haya of Jordan-owned gelding quickened impressively.

Donativum had beaten subsequent Racing Post Trophy winner Crowded House in a sales race at Newmarket on his last start.
