Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint goes to Desert Code
Desert Code, ridden by Richard Migliore and owned by David Hofmans, has won the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Frankie Dettori was nailed close home in the Sprint as Diabolical was worn down in the last 50 yards by Desert Code.
The Godolphin horse looked to have the race in the bag but Migliore got a tremendous run out of Hofmans’ four-year-old.
Fleeting Spirit looked to be Diabolical’s main threat as Johnny Murtagh forced her through a gap on the rails, but she maybe did not quite stay the six and a half furlong trip as she was just run out of the places.
Migliore said after the half-length success: "I'm so happy I can't even express how happy I am.
“I’ve had a lot of faith in this horse and also the trainer and the horse’s work rider.
“I kind of anticipated being a bit closer to the pace, but it seemed they were flying and my horse wasn’t comfortable so I just sat on him and hoped things would turn out right.”
Hofmans added: "He loves this downhill course, he's won four now on it.
“He was so far back today, this was a different style for him. I give Richard all the credit for this. I got him to the race, Richard took it from there.”
