Cecil gears Way towards HQ heat

Henry Cecil plans to run Royal Lodge third-placed finisher On Our Way in the Peter Stone Memorial Houghton Conditions Stakes at Newmarket before giving him a winter break.

The son of Oasis Dream travelled powerfully at the head of affairs at Ascot before being headed by Jukebox Jury and Cityscape inside the final furlong.

Cecil believes the colt's free-going nature counted against him on that occasion, and is keen to give him another chance next Friday – having watched the juvenile in his first gallop since the Royal Lodge.

He said: "There is that race at Newmarket, the mile conditions race, the day before the Champion Stakes and if he is well in himself, then I would like to give him another run as he is still a little immature.

"Another run would do him good and he will make a lovely three-year-old.

"He and the other horse (Cityscape) got very tired in the Royal Lodge as they went very fast on fast ground.

"The result slightly flattered the horse who came through at the end.

"“We need to get him to settle and conserve energy and I would like to give him one more run.

"He is already Group-placed and I think he will be better after strengthening up through the winter."

Another young colt whom Cecil holds in high regard is the once-raced Alpha Tauri, who will be in action at Leicester next week.

He added: "He ran the other day on the all-weather from a bad draw.

"He tired in the closing stages but I expect him to run well at Leicester."
