Ayr race meeting washed away

Ayr officials have called time on Friday’s Rockingham Stakes meeting because of waterlogging.

Clerk of the course Katherine Self abandoned the fixture after staging an unsuccessful early-morning inspection.

She said: “We have had a total of 38mm of rain since 6pm on Monday night.

“The bulk of that was during the day on Tuesday and parts of the track are still waterlogged.

“Although the forecast is for dry weather today, another band of rain is set to move in on Thursday and Friday.

“The aim of abandoning early is to give everyone as much chance as possible to declare elsewhere.”
